Die ‚Umbrella‘-Interpretin wurde gebeten im Emirates Palace Hotel in dem arabischen Land zu performen. Ein Insider verriet der ‚New York Post‘, wieso ihr erster Auftritt im Mittleren Osten so lange auf sich warten ließ. „Sie sollte eigentlich schon im Mai auftreten, aber sie sagte das als Folge des Angriffs ab“, erklärt dieser mit Bezug auf Chris Browns Übergriff auf die Popsängerin im vergangenen Februar. „Das soll nun eine Wiedergutmachung sein“, fährt der Insider fort.
Rihanna ist nicht der erste Star, der für einen einmaligen Auftritt ein mehr als nettes Sümmchen kassiert. Am Silvesterabend 2006 wurden Pop-Ikone George Michael 2,6 Millionen Dollar ausgezahlt, um 13 seiner Hits auf einer Party des russischen Wirtschaftsmagnaten Wladimir Potanin darzubieten. Nur wenige Monate später zahlte der britische Milliardär Sir Philip Green ihm 2,5 Millionen Dollar für einen Auftritt auf seiner 55. Geburtstagsfeier.
Auch Amy Winehouse konnte absahnen, als sie im letzten Jahr für 1,6 Millionen Dollar für Daria ‚Dasha‘ Zhukova, der Freundin des russischen Tycoons Roman Abramowitsch, eine Privatvorstellung gab.
Die Rolling Stones traten hingegen für ganze 7,3 Millionen Dollar zum 60. Geburtstag des US-amerikanischen Milliardärs David Bonderman auf.(ln)
